Kids and dogs are an awesome combination, and we've got a number of activities specifically designed for the younger set.
Public Participation
Beginning at 9:00 and 1:00 at Kids Central, kids will have an opportunity to earn
Kids Carnival tickets by attending short
WAGS learning sessions presented by Therapy Partners. These sessions will begin every few minutes and are open to children of all ages.
Therapy Partners created the
WAGS program to provide comprehensive instruction to elementary school age children.
Therapy Partner teams instruct children how to approach an unfamiliar dog, recognize the warning signs of an unfriendly dog, and learn how animals are used to help people. Handlers demonstrate the proper calm, non-threatening greeting using the acronym
WAGS, 'Wait, Ask, Greet Safely' and children are allowed to practice on well-trained therapy dogs.
Immediately following the
WAGS presentation kids can use their tickets to play fun games and win prizes or even get their face painted at the carnival booths set up in Kid Central.
The
Dog Show For Kids will be held at 11:30 and 12:00 in the nearby Training, Obedience, Rally, Dog Show for Kids, and Manners Ring - If you're a kid, bring your dog and compete in HOTC's version of the Westminster Dog Show.
It's not only fun, but you'll get a prestigious ribbon, a cool toy, and have the opportunity to take a winner's circle picture of you and your dog.
The
Dog Show For Kids will be divided into two groups. Kids 9 years old and under will show their dogs beginning at 11:30 and kids 10 years and older will show at 12:00.
Parents may assist smaller children as needed.
